Homebound & Hooked has already released a couple creations and we have more in the making! What can you make with these patterns? Depending on your yarn weight and hook size, the possibilities are endless! We will have more accurate specifications on all of our mini plushie patterns at some point, but all patterns labeled “mini” plushie will be roughly the same size.
This page, in particular, focuses more on the size variations during the making of the Mini Bear Plushie – a Homebound & Hooked Original Design. This is the same pattern that I use to make my polar bear and black bear Christmas ornaments, which are worked with DK weight yarn. This is why the pattern, itself, is worked using DK weight yarn, but did you know this pattern can be used with different yarn weights? I have done the test work for you! The list below can help you determine a couple of things:
- What size plushie do you want?
- What brand do you prefer to use?
- What hook size works best with the yarn that you chose?
Keep in mind, this list is only based on the yarn that works best for me. Other brands of acrylic, cotton or polyester yarn will also work well with this pattern! So far, the Mini Bear Plushie pattern has been tested in the following yarn brands, yarn weights and corresponding hook sizes. Here are the results:
Keep in mind, these sizes are still estimate ranges. Different brands of yarn and hooks tend to vary in size.
- #3 weight light worsted (acrylic) with a 3.5 mm (C) hook
- 3″ L X 3″ W X 2.5″ D
- For best results, I recommend Paintbox Yarns Simply DK or Stylecraft Special DK.
- #4 weight worsted (acrylic) with a 3.50 mm (E) hook
- 4.5″ L X 4.5″ W X 3.5″ D
- For best results, I recommend Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran or Stylecraft Special Aran.
- #5 weight chunky with a 4.00 mm (G) hook
- 5.5″L X 5.5″W X 5″D
- For acrylic yarn, I suggest using Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky or Stylecraft Special Chunky
- For velvet yarn, I suggest using Premier Yarns Retro Velvet
- #6 weight super chunky (polyester) with a 5.00 mm(H) hook
- 6″ L X 5.5″W X 5.5″D
- For best results, I recommend Premier Yarns Parfait Chunky
- Bernat Blanket Yarn with a 8.00 mm (L) hook
- 9″L X 8″W X 8″D

The measurement references can also help determine sizes for the bears in my Lover Bear Mini Plushie pattern. The bears in this pattern are worked up the same way as the Polar Bear and Black bear.
