Meet Captain Hook

Welcome and thank you for showing interest in my little crochet business! Obviously Captain Hook is an alias. I’m get a little weird about sharing personal information with total strangers. We can be on a first name basis after we make an initial connect! About me: I am a crochet designer, crochet maker and multi-crafter. I am also a certified firefighter. I’ve made it all the way to captain (hence the name), I recently decided to hang up my helmet but, it is still a big passion of mine. I’m also a full time standardized test scorer. Now, my life is essentially a balancing act between making toys for our youth (ages 10 and under) and I’m determining the fate or our youth (ages 10 and under)…ah, the irony…

I’ve always been crafty. My grandma taught me how to make jewelry when I was younger and I have been in love with crafts ever since. I absolutely idolize my grandma and seeing how much she lit up whenever I made her something is the spark that lit this ever burning flame. I have tried all types of crafts jewelry, paper crafts, paint pouring, etc. I would pick a random one on a whim and just try it, but when I stumbled upon crochet, I just never wanted to put my hook back down! I have been crocheting for over four years. My skills really improved during the COVID-19 pandemic because all of the isolation left me with more time to spend with my yarn! It’s literally the only good thing that came from 2020. I learned from so many fun patterns and am always thinking of fun projects to create.

When I read about amigurumi, I knew I had found my niche. I am an analytical person and I LOVE geometry, so I was drawn to the creation of shapes right away. Since then, I have been working on perfecting a pattern for the perfect plushies and baby loveys, but I still venture into other aspects of crochet from time to time. This business is still budding. I have big plans to start blogging, create tutorials and maybe even run my own classes some day. Keep an eye on this site because it will blossom

Starting this business has been somewhat of a form of therapy for me. I’ve been through, well over, my fair share of struggles in life and there was one incident, in particular, that really sent me over the edge. Since then, I have struggled with chronic PTSD and I rarely leave my house. It’s just too “peopley” out there in the real world. It’s not that I don’t like people, I just like having the ability to shut out the negativity when connecting online. Since stumbling upon the crochet community, I have met HUNDREDS of incredibly uplifting people and it’s been a real life changer in the most positive way! Fee free to connect on social media and introduce yourself at any time. I’m sure I would love to meet you!

Happy Hooking,
